Copper Sulfate is perhaps the most misused product in the aquatic industry. Yes it does indeed kill algae, but repeated and overuse of this harsh copper compound intensely damages the entire pond ecosystem. This essentially leads to more algae growth and a dependence upon copper sulfate forever. Also severely inhibits the fish’s food chain by wiping out all of the essential microorganisms in your system. I would not recommend using copper sulfate in a fishing lake or pond.

I use copper sulfate to control swimmers itch, and to kill all forms of algae on small swimming ponds.
